Alberta Independence Referendum Results

Politics

Alberta has held a referendum on pursuing independence from Canada. The vote reveals deep divisions within the province, including among separatists, while Mark Carney works to preserve national unity. The fact that the separatist movement itself is divided suggests that the desire for a total break isn't a monolith. This opening could be the space where a new, more balanced relationship between the resource-rich province and the G7 nation is negotiated.
