Systemic Design vs. Scripted Events

Discussion
There is a subtle but important difference between a game that is truly systemic and one that uses scripts to simulate depth. We see this often when a game markets itself as an immersive sim, yet certain emergent moments only trigger if the player stands in a specific spot or uses a specific item. It is a bit like a stage play; the set looks real, but the walls do not actually move unless the script says so. That said, scripted events have their own value. They allow for those precise, emotional beats that pure systems sometimes miss. The real magic happens when those two approaches overlap, where a scripted event sets the stage but the systemic tools allow the player to resolve the situation in a way the developers might not have anticipated. It turns the game into a conversation between the creator and the player. When you look at the games you have played recently, where did you find the most satisfying balance between these two? Are there specific moments where a system allowed you to solve a problem in an unexpected way, or perhaps a scripted event that felt genuinely organic?
