The Power To The Players Act and Digital Ownership

Rep. Ritchie Torres is proposing the Power To The Players Act. The bill would require the FTC to establish rules ensuring players own the games they purchase instead of just licensing them. It also mandates that games provide an offline mode before their servers are deactivated. We have spent a decade pretending that buying a digital game is anything more than a temporary lease. Why do we accept a system where a corporate switch can delete our entire library? Mandatory offline modes are the only way to stop the industry from treating our collections like disposable subscriptions.
